Players you wish hadn't left
With Payet soon on his way, who of our players were most missed after they transferred to other clubs? (Ignoring the circumstances of their falling out with the club, and taking into account the careers they subsequently had). I'll start with Frank Lampard jnr.

Say what you want about Fat Frank and he has been a bit of a cunt, but he did turn into one hell of a player, maybe would have gone anyway but if his Dad and Uncle had stayed????

Demba Ba as well, only a handful of game but if we hadn't of gone down, just our luck to get a top drawer striker only to almost immediately lose them.

Re: Players you wish hadn't left
Well in the Cearns/Pratt era we were too busy firstly getting promoted from second to first division and then winning cups. to be honest the owners were disparaged but I never remember them being a preoccupation of ours.

As for TB well he made a lot of money, for those days, out of us. Came out with stupid statements like "our turn to go down" etc. Also set Sir Trev up to tell us, following a 42 point relegation, that we were keeping the nucleas of the squad to strive for immediate promotion back to the PL. And then promptly sold off a lot of the family silver when we had just renewed our STs.

I mad a promise to myself after that to the effect of not taking much notice at all of what comes out of the club.

JF, don't go against the grain on here. Our current owners are our worst ever and the worst owners, right now, of any club.

Re: Players you wish hadn't left
As has been said too many to list starting with Joey Kirkup

Probably the one that upset me most was Martin Peters because I was young & naive enough to think we were on the brink of building a truly great team. It was at that point when the penny dropped that we were being taken for a ride by a bunch of unambitious skinflints

Probably why I'm not as vociferous as those who complain about the current board

Not sure over ever been bothered about anyone leaving, though I thought it was a shame when Bellamy went, as thought he was a brilliant little player.

Think he played 4 or 5 games when we got back in the prem... went to Charlton IIRC?? Excellent player along with Keeno on the flanks in our promotion season

Re: Players you wish hadn't left
I think Robson played one or two games after promotion before he was let go, effectively replaced by Dale Gordon!

sniper, when I used to play for The Castle pub team in the early 90s, we'd train over Woodside school one evening a week and Robson would be there training a kids team, obviously in his spare time. I liked him and agree he was good enough for the top level

Still felt he could've been a good player for us in the top tier - didn't we get rid after a season?

Francois van der Elst. In more ways than one.

Sniper... when he joined us we paid him £250-00 a week... when we got promoted we upped his wages to a grand a week...

Mark Robson was another one for me - always felt he deserved more of a shit at the premier league

Re: Players you wish hadn't left
There are loads that are obvious but I would have liked to have kept hold of Rio for a bit longer than we did, particularly, given how badly the money we got for him was wasted.

I was also gutted when Bilic went to Everton as clearly he went for financial reasons rather than football as they were a very average side.

Agree with many of the names here, but am surprised to see no mention of Kanoute.

So, er, Kanoute.
